Each book offers a piece of the puzzle to help you take control of your attention and do your best work.

Here’s how these three strategies fit together.

Step 1: Get a Handle on Distractions (Indistractable)

Distraction isn’t just about your phone or social media—it starts inside your mind. Nir Eyal explains that we often reach for distractions because of internal triggers like boredom, stress, or uncertainty. The key to staying focused isn’t willpower; it’s understanding why we get distracted in the first place.

  • Recognize Your Internal Triggers – Next time you feel the urge to check your phone, pause and ask: “What am I feeling right now?” Awareness is the first step to breaking the habit.

  • Timebox Your Priorities – Instead of letting distractions dictate your day, schedule time for the things that matter—work, family, relaxation. When you plan your time in advance, there’s less room for distraction to creep in.

  • Use Technology with Intention – Your phone isn’t the enemy—how you use it is. Turn off unnecessary notifications, set app limits, and make your devices work for you, not against you.

When you stop letting distractions control you, you gain the power to focus on what actually matters.

Step 2: Upgrade How You Learn and Think (Limitless)

Ever feel like your brain is running on low battery? Jim Kwik believes most of us aren’t living up to our full potential—not because we’re not smart enough, but because we haven’t been taught how to use our brains effectively.

  • Schedule Deep Work Blocks – Set aside at least 90 minutes for distraction-free focus. Treat this time like a non-negotiable meeting with yourself.

  • Create a Ritual for Focus – Whether it’s putting on noise-canceling headphones, using a specific playlist, or setting a “work mode” cue, a pre-work ritual signals your brain that it’s time to focus.

  • Reduce Shallow Work – Emails, Slack messages, and admin tasks eat up mental energy. Try batching them into a specific time slot instead of letting them interrupt your focus all day.
